Nancy Cao, MD

Where are you from? El Monte, California
What are your personal interests/hobbies? Too many! Hiking, biking, HIIT workouts, volleyball, rock climbing, cooking, baking, dabbling with ukulele, coffee, spending time with my husband and dog. Also, I recently have been getting into making TikToks for my dog.
What are your professional interests? Ultrasound, medical Spanish, global health.
Why did you choose UA EM? I had such a great time talking to all the residents and faculty on the interview day and could appreciate how close-knit and supportive faculty and residents are even through a virtual interview. I also really liked that spouses are a huge part of the social circle, which was important to me and my husband when thinking about where we would both feel welcome and supported and could start setting roots together. Medical Spanish was also a huge plus!
Favorite activity in Tucson, or what attracted you to Tucson besides the residency program? I went to medical school in the Midwest and found myself missing the sunshine and warmer weather. Tucson was the perfect fit of medium-sized town, with amazing weather, great food scene and affordability. I also love the outdoors and am super excited to explore the mountains and the bike loops!
What are your non-medical goals during residency? Run a half-marathon, complete El Tour de Tucson, explore all the national parks in Arizona. I also want to continue living life with my husband and dog and maintaining my list of many hobbies.
