Kabir Bansal, MD

Resident

Where are you from?
I am from Patiala, Punjab, India.

Why did you choose UA Family Medicine?
UA Family Medicine has been my dream program since I first learned about it. What stood out most was its emphasis on whole-person, community-centered care and its strong reputation for training well-rounded physicians. But what really sealed it for me was the people, both the faculty and the residents. The camaraderie here is something special. It feels less like a program and more like a family, where everyone genuinely supports and looks out for each other. Even beyond the program, the people of Tucson have a warmth of their own that made this feel like the right place to be.

What are you most excited about for life in Tucson?
The desert landscape, the outdoor lifestyle, and the chance to build real roots in a community I already feel connected to. I'm especially excited to connect with the Tucson community on a deeper level and to serve the people here as a physician. Beyond medicine, I'm looking forward to making new friends, building lasting connections, and finding a sense of family in this city. I'm also looking forward to exploring the area on foot and by bike as part of my training, and making my way through all the hiking trails the region has to offer.

What are your interests or hobbies outside of medicine?
I'm training for marathons and an IRONMAN triathlon, and I split my time between endurance work and strength training. I also love badminton and played competitively in the past, and I'd love to stay connected to the sport here. Outside of that, I enjoy cooking, live music, and stand-up comedy. But honestly, my favorite way to unwind is just chilling with friends and having quality time away from screens.

What are your professional interests within medicine?
Advocacy, whole-person care, and medical education. I'm especially interested in how family medicine can serve as a bridge between preventive care and community health. I personally believe medicine isn't practiced by the book, it's practiced by the patient. Every patient is unique, and it's the physician's job to meet each one where they are and tailor care to fit their individual needs.

Favorite way to spend a day off?
A long run or ride outdoors, followed by cooking a good meal (completing my protein) with music playing in the background. Somewhere in there I try to knock out household chores too, the glamorous side of resident life. The best part is spending time with family and friends, sharing a good laugh, and inevitably procrastinating on planning out tomorrow's schedule and, if I'm lucky, completing my sleep too.

Top item on your "Bucket list"?

Completing a full IRONMAN triathlon, getting the chance to meet David Goggins, and, above all, becoming the best physician I can possibly be.
