Dr. Fuoto has worked at two NCI-designated cancer centers and has practiced in both inpatient and outpatient hospice and palliative care settings. Her doctoral quality improvement project focused on nurse communication skills training, which was subsequently published in the Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing. She has also published on seizure disorders in the elderly, pain management in cancer survivors, head and neck cancer, renal disorders in palliative care and graphic medicine. She is the co-author of a forthcoming book addressing the patient, family and caregiver experience of serious illness through the medium of comics.

Dr. Fuoto has been invited to give talks on breaking bad news at her current institution as well as The Arizona Clinical Oncology Society (TACOS) and the Advanced Practice Providers Oncology Summit (APPOS). She is a content peer reviewer for the Journal of the Advanced Practitioner in Oncology. She is currently serving her two-year appointment as the chairperson of the ACHPN Exam Development Committee for the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center.
