“Menopause in the Golden Years: Safe and Effective Management of Persistent Symptoms”

Fain, MD, the Anne & Alden Hart Endowed Chair in Medicine, chief of the GGP Division, and director, U of A Center on Aging and Arizona Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program; the R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy’s Jeannie Lee, PharmD, BCPS, BCGP, FASHP, AGSF; and U of A College of Nursing’s Cheryl Lacasse, PhD, RN, AOCNS.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the current medical guidance on when hormone therapy should be started, as well as the importance of shared decision-making on potential risks and benefits when hormone therapy is continued in the later years.
  2. Review the nonhormonal treatment options available for ongoing menopausal hot flashes in older women.
  3. Recognize the effective and safe treatment options for vaginal and urinary symptoms of menopause (genitourinary syndrome of menopause).
