This presentation will provide information on the criteria that guide placement in special education and 504 accommodations, as well as how physicians can collaborate with schools to ensure support for those they serve. Information regarding the differences between a diagnosis and educational eligibility for special education will be shared.
Learning outcomes:
- Participants will be able to identify the criteria used to determine eligibility and need for special education.
- Participants will be able to identify when a 504 plan or IEP may be warranted.
- Participants will be able to identify how school-based eligibility for special education is determined and how an educational disability is different than a diagnosis.
