Researchers will take a precision medicine approach to treating obstructive sleep apnea in people with Down syndrome.

The U of A Department of Medicine greeted 38 new Internal Medicine Residency – Tucson first-year residents to the largest such program in the college and the state with a series of activities starting in mid-June. Learn more and see a mini-photo gallery.

More than 300 Fullbright Scholars have represented the University of Arizona at institutions around the world since 1954. Among this year’s cohort is the College of Medicine – Tucson’s Dr. Stefano Guerra, a professor in the Department of Medicine’s Pulmonary division and epidemiology director at the Asthma & Airway Disease Research Center.

The Academy of Clinicians as Teachers, developed with Michigan State University in collaboration with the Department of Medicine’s Breanna Sherrow-Serrano, PhD, graduates its first cohort. Faculty are encouraged to apply by Aug. 1 for the 2025-26 cohort.

With prominent research figures from across the U of A Health Sciences, Banner Health and SAVAHCS represented, conversations were dynamic for presenters, panelists and attendees, showcasing openings for collaboration and innovation. The DOM’s Franz Rischard, DO, and Jarrod Mosier, MD, also with the Department of Emergency Medicine, led this year’s workshop.

A native of Cameroon, Dr. Christian Bime — who’s been a part of the inaugural University of Arizona cohorts for the U of A Health Sciences Career Development Award and an NHLBI-funded fellowship for early-career physician-scientists in biomedical science — will now head the Pulmonary division at the U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix.
