Six awards were presented, but 11 physicians won honors at the annual event that culminates a year’s worth of hard work on academic research covering a range of medical challenges for Internal Medicine Residency – Tucson Program members at the U of A Department of Medicine.

Honors go to Gina Favela, Nephrology; Dawn Henderson, Cardiology; James Deljanovan, Hematology & Oncology; and Bersabe Lopez, Vice Chair of Education Office and Nephrology — with a raffle for additional prizes for others.

The Madhavan Lab offers students and postdocs valuable opportunities to engage the public and sharpen their communication skills.

Pulsed electric field therapy — provided by Interventional Pulmonology team including Drs. Billie Bixby, Madhav Chopra, Darius Filsoof and James Knepler — is thought to target tumors without surgery.

A University of Arizona Health Sciences study with Drs. Tara Carr and Fernando Martinez aims to understand how early-life exposure to environmental factors places some children at an increased risk for asthma.
