MD, PhD
The ABC board induction dinner was March 28 and coincided with the American College of Cardiology annual conference in New Orleans. Dr. Chinyere’s term will last two years. See a recent social media post on the induction here.
Founded in 1974, ABC is a nonprofit with an international membership of more than 2,000 health professionals committed to eliminating disparities related to cardiovascular disease in all people via public and private partnerships designed to improve health in communities across the nation.

Dr. Chinyere, who’s also been on the college’s physician-scientist track (Medical Scientist Training Program), is the first Tucson-based ABC board inductee and will represent the people and interests of Arizona in addition to all cardiology fellows and healthcare trainees nationwide.
He said he joined ABC 10 years ago while still an undergraduate honors physiology student here at the college and won an ABC scholarship as a fledgling medical student, working in the lab of Steve Goldman, MD, the college’s C. Leonard Pfeiffer Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine.
“Utilizing my role in ABC, I wish to serve the cardiovascular trainees here at the University of Arizona by advocating for our interests and needs, in addition to the interests and needs of all cardiovascular trainees nationally and worldwide,” Dr. Chinyere said. “I’ve been fortunate enough to participate with a few organizations with this aim, and am consistently amazed by the rewarding sensation that comes with public service.”
He encouraged others to be active within groups locally, statewide, nationally or internationally that fit their goals and dreams as a way to “utilize their training and expertise to serve in organizations committed to bringing knowledge and resources to those who need it most.”
He added that ABC is a great organization for anyone (Black, white, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian, Native American, etc.) to that end, and he would be “happy to meet with anyone contemplating how to utilize their privileges to give back to our communities, whether it be via ABC or another organization/association.”
Dr. Chinyere earned his bachelor’s degree in physiology (2017), a doctorate in physiological sciences and cardiac electrophysiology (2020) and his medical degree from the U of A College of Medicine – Tucson (2023) as well.
Among his honors and awards, he was a member of the American Board of Integrative Medicine Physician-Scientist Trainee Program (2023-25) and the College of Medicine – Tucson’s MD/PhD program (2017-23), and won an ABC Biosense Webster Scholarship (2022).
A news brief about Dr. Chinyere’s ABC induction appeared on the Banner Health website April 17 and was to appear in an April 29 Banner – University Medicine Tucson newsletter.
