Interdisciplinary Research Committee

The imperative to conduct research in an interdisciplinary fashion is growing. While such research is alive and well at the University of Arizona , it is our desire to catalyze and support this effort as much as possible. This committee will be charged with developing formal mechanisms for facilitating interdisciplinary research within the College of Medicine.

The committe is charged with suggesting strategies to accomplish this goal. Please do not hesitate to suggest strategies that require incremental funds. Seed money for projects, changes in resource allocation policies, changes in reward systems, and other incentive-based tools which would facilitate this effort should all be on the table. While ideally the suggestions made should not conflict with recently introduced policies for space or indirect cost allocations, the committee should not shy away from making suggestions which at least in part modify those policies. The College of Medicine is in a transition period and will continue to develop tools to meet the variety of needs which we face at the institutional level.

The focused excellence initiative at the University of Arizona should be included in the thought process as should the strategic plan for research in the College of Medicine.
