D. LECTURER TITLES

1. Appointment as Clinical Lecturer

A Clinical Lecturer is a qualified professional who assists in one or more aspects of the educational programs of The University of Arizona College of Medicine.

The title Clinical Lecturer applies to individuals who make variable contributions to the educational programs, but whose time commitment does not meet the criteria for the prefix series. Such individuals are primarily clinicians in the community who give an occasional lecture, lead a seminar, supervise a resident, conduct rounds and participate in conferences. They admit their patients to teaching services, serve as attending physicians on an occasional basis, but do not desire consistent, active involvement in the teaching of College of Medicine residents/students. They will be reviewed on a 3-year cycle of reappointment.

3.13.01 Lecturers

“There are two types of nontenure-eligible lecturer appointments, both of which can be modified by such terms as "adjunct" or "visiting":

·         Lecturers, appointed for one year or less

·         Lecturers appointed for more than one year, not to exceed three years, in which case the titles "Lecturer" or "Senior Lecturer" may be used. These appointments may be renewed indefinitely, for up to three years each time, except that all reappointments for longer than one year require approval of the Provost.

Promotion from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer may occur only after peer evaluation at the department and college levels.

Renewal of all types of Lecturer appointment are subject to performance evaluations reflecting satisfactory levels of teaching, research and service, as appropriate.”

2. Appointment as Research Lecturer
