UA College of Medicine - Phoenix
The University of Arizona College of Medicine will be opening a new campus in downtown Phoenix in July 2006. The campus will be located on a 15.7 acre parcel provided by the City of Phoenix for the establishment of the Phoenix Biomedical Campus.
The Arizona Legislature has allocated $7 million ($1 million to Arizona State University and $6 million to The University of Arizona) to bring a full four-year program of the College of Medicine to Phoenix.
The historical Phoenix Union High School buildings have been provided by the City of Phoenix to house the new campus. The medical school will be a key element of the biomedical campus which will include the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), the Arizona Biomedical Collaborative (ABC) and possibly future space for the UA College of Pharmacy and Northern Arizona University.
Currently, third- and fourth-year medical students are able to complete coursework at the Phoenix campus located at Third Street and Indian School Road. The expansion of the campus will provide opportunities for Arizona medical students to attend all four years of medical school in Phoenix. The first full four-year class will start in July 2007.
