The University of Arizona College of Medicine was dedicated on Nov. 17, 1967, laying the foundation for 50 years in excellence in education, research, service and patient care on behalf of the people of Arizona.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the UA College of Medicine – Tucson will present a series of three lectures and a junior investigator poster forum during Founders Week, Nov. 13 - 17.

All lectures are free, open to the public and will be held at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson, DuVal Auditorium, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson from noon to 1 p.m.

William S. Dalton, PhD, MD, former dean of the UA College of Medicine – Tucson (2001-2002) will speak the first day of Founders Week on Monday, November 13. On Wednesday, November 15, Fernando Martinez, MD, founding director of the UAHS Asthma and Airway Disease Research Center, UA Regent’s Professor and Swift – McNear endowed chair of pediatrics, will speak. Gordon A. Ewy, MD, a founding member of the cardiology faculty in 1969, director emeritus of the UA Sarver Heart Center and professor emeritus of cardiology, will speak on Founders Day, Friday, November 17.

Connecting its past with its future, the college will host a Junior Investigator Poster Forum on Friday, November 17 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Junior faculty, post-doctoral fellows, residents, medical students, graduate and undergraduate students will present their research at the UA Health Sciences Plaza, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson.
