Graphic Identity at the UA College of Medicine

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a logo speaks volumes.

An organization’s graphic identity is a visual shortcut that represents the organization to its diverse audiences. The University of Arizona’s block “A” represents the UA in all its aspects, from athletic teams to research teams, departments, programs, centers and colleges. In combination with a specific typeface and the university’s official colors, this strong and highly recognized image is the foundation for all UA communications, and it is integral to the UA College of Medicine’s graphic identity program.

Administered through the Section of Web Development and Graphic Services, ITS, this program provides carefully considered guidelines for the use of graphic elements across all media, print and electronic. Adherence to these guidelines helps to ensure consistency in promoting the UA and to utilize fully the positive associations of the UA logo.

Provided here are downloadable logos for the College of Medicine in a variety of formats, as well as the wordmark and directives for its use for The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix in partnership with Arizona State University.

Separate from the graphic identity program but important to the image an organization presents is consistency in following an editorial style in written communications. The editorial style guide for the Arizona Health Sciences Center, provided here, has been developed and maintained over many years to promote clarity and consistency. This document includes general guidelines for writing, as well as advice on such specifics as capitalization questions, titles and degree designations and official names of AHSC colleges, programs and affiliates.

Who are the guidelines for?

All academic, research, outreach, student services and administrative units of the UA College of Medicine that are funded through or by the university, and are not legally autonomous, must follow the graphic identity guidelines described here. External entities that create print or electronic publications for any UA College of Medicine departments, sections or units also are required to follow the guidelines.

Graphic identity program oversight

The Section of Web Development and Graphic Services works with various health sciences units to oversee implementation of the guidelines. General questions regarding the guidelines and use of the logos may be directed to AHSC Brand Advocate Darla Keneston. Policy questions or requests for a variance should be directed to Co-Director UAID-AHSC Rita Ellsworth.

Use of logos on merchandise

Official UA departments, clubs and organizations who wish to apply a UA logo or trademark to a product first will need approval from The University of Arizona's Department of Trademarks and Licensing. This applies to all items whether given away or sold.

Campus Organizations & Departments Art Approval Requests.
