Medical Student Education

The University of Arizona College of Medicine offers truly excellent programs in medical student education. Our integrated, multidisciplinary curriculum (ArizonaMed) combines the classical art of medicine with the latest advances in biomedical science. Our faculty is dedicated to education and our faculty members are rewarded for their educational efforts and accomplishments. The University of Arizona College of Medicine is nationally recognized for educational programs such as the use of standardized patients, the Rural Health Professions Program, the Commitment to Underserved People program, the Medical Student Research Program and telemedicine and tele-education. Our simulation program is one of the most active in the country.

We offer distinct, but related, four-year educational programs leading to the doctor of medicine degree at our Tucson and Phoenix campuses. Each utilizes a curriculum based largely upon integrated blocks that are focused on organ systems or similar topics. Each block consists of scientific and clinical disciplines interwoven with subjects such as social science, ethics, professionalism and medical humanities. Both educational tracks emphasize active learning and small group activities. The principal differences between the two programs are greater emphasis on biomedical informatics and personalized medicine and the requirement for a four-year scholarly project in the Phoenix Track.

More detailed information on each track can be found by following the links to the right.
