Scholarly Projects

Public Health, Prevention, Population Health and Policy (P4)

Description: This concentration offers the opportunity for students to obtain the knowledge, skills and experience needed to address health care issues at the community or population level. Population health outcomes are the result of much more than individualized clinical service. Other determinants include economics, legislation, culture, politics, and the environment. Projects in this concentration will focus on finding root causes of health problems and disparities and finding practical and evidence-based solutions. Population-level skills such as epidemiology and public health policy formulation will be stressed and taught as complimentary to those needed for individual patient care. This concentration provides training for those who want to explore their potential for leadership in community health systems and for those who want to maximize their effectiveness as a physician in the community.

The concentration director is Doug Campos-Outcalt MD, MPA, Associate Head of the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
