Ophthalmology & Vision Science

The Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science at the University of Arizona is mandated to provide education, research, and service throughout the Desert Southwest.

Medical students and residents are offered educational opportunities in the most recent applicable eye disease treatment procedures and prevention programs. Our faculty participate in teaching graduate student level courses in Cell Biology, Optical Sciences, and Pharmacology.

The Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science provides clinical services for ophthalmic disorders, including corneal problems, trauma, cataracts, glaucoma, pediatrics and strabismus, and retinal and vitreous disorders. Areas of special expertise include corneal transplantation, anterior segment surgery, refractive surgery, external disease and infections, neuro-ophthalmology, and retinal and vitreous surgery. The department has an active refractive surgery program including radial keratotomy (RK) and Excimer laser surgery.

The faculty in our department are united in the goal of achieving excellence whether that is in performing the best possible medical care, applying the latest technologies, or designing and implementing new screening and treatment programs for the underserved.
